Victoria 30 Sabbatical

Having always admired Chuck Paine's designs and the double enders in particular, and having moved across the Atlantic from Devon, I came across a for sale advert on the Morris Yachts web site for a rather tired Victoria 30 Sabbatical.

I bought her shipped her to Texas and began a complete refit (that eventually stretched out over 10 years).

She is currently complete but laid up at our property in Texas waiting for shipping prices to drop or me to pluck up sufficient courage to sail her back home.

Looks good - how did you bring the wood back up and did you have to do anything to the veneer on the bulkheads or were they ok?

The veneer on the bulkheads was intact (well apart from a few drilled holes that were filled and a small patch that is hidden by the teak block for the chart-plotter). It was carefully hand sanded back to bare wood and re-varnished with a satin finish (which hides a lot of blemishes and from my perspective gives a warmer feel to the interior) although there are those who like everything glossy; I feel its too much.

Had a few issues with the fibregalss tabs holding the bulkheads to the hull, which had lost adhesion to the wood where laminate had been stripped back. I think there must have been residual glue left on the surface. Cut some out and replaced them, smaller repairs were made with carefully placed injections of semi-thickened epoxy.

Cabin sole had some areas of damaged veneer though, cut these out and re-veneered but that's a bit time consuming to match given the holly stripes

I did get some help with the sanding as its pretty tedious!
