EAST COAST SPRING SOCIAL AT WIVENHOE

An important date for your diaries - Saturday 14th March 2015 for this year’s East Coast Social at Wivenhoe.

We will follow the usual format of meeting for lunch at the Rose and Crown on the quay before adjourning to  the Nottage Maritime Institute just a few yards away along the quay  www.nottagemaritimeinstitute.org.uk

As the pub is often busy at weekends, we suggest arriving around noon to place orders for food as early as possible  Parking on the quay is very limited. The station car park is just a short walk away
Shortly after 2pm we plan to move to the Institute. The usual boat building session will be going on below so we will all have to speak up. Our speaker this year will be east coast member Chris Passmore. Many of you will be aware of Chris  and his father Michael’s exploits on Santy during their 26 year ownership. The Passmore family’s sailing heritage  goes back much further. Chris, with the aid of early and amazingly atmospheric cine film, will be talking about his grandfather’s building of the Yacht Thea and competing in the Fastnet race. No apologies to those of you who may have seen the film before. It is well worth a second viewing.

We will round the afternoon off with tea and cakes. Please bring a small prize for the raffle which will be held to defer the cost of the event.

A pre-warning to avoid an unseemly rush on the day – we will be looking for a volunteer to arrange a summer meet afloat.

It would be very helpful to have an idea of numbers attending, please email/phone:   macgregor.farleigh@btinternet.com or 01622729507

We look forward to seeing you at Wivenhoe and hearing all of your east coast sailing adventures before we return to  another summer in the Mediterranean.
